Rain creates havoc in Kimin, 2 dead
ITANAGAR, Aug 13: A mother and her two months old baby were killed in a devastating landslide at Hawa Camp at Kimin in Papum Pare as the entire area is in ruins because of incessant rain since Aug 12. The body of the 21 year old mother who has been identified as Tame Yassing has been recovered while the authority is searching for the body of the baby.
Kimin has been battling massive flood fury since last year and this year too it has created another round of havoc.

The Administration has sounded a high alert and asked people to move to safer places as many of the houses are located near the river. The Private residence of local MLA is also under threat.
The township water supply system built at an amount of Rs 4.50 Cr which was to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Aug 21 lay in ruins. The Forest gate located near Kimin police station has been washed away.
ITBP has also sounded a high alert to deal with any situation.
Local MLA Ngurang Pinch and DC Papum Pare Bidol Tayeng are assessing the situation while the chief minister is due to survey the area tomorrow.
MLA has called on the Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu to provide manpower and financial support to the effected people immediately.
MLA informed that due to incessant rain since August 12, large scale damage to public and private properties including houses, granaries, roads, culverts, agriculture, horticulture, fish pond, domestic animals have been reported from Kimin, Kakoi and Gumto circles. At Kimin, Little Conner hotel belonging of Taba Yabi, PMGSY road passing through government higher secondary school, Kimin have been washed away and there is a threat of major land slide on the way to government higher secondary school, which would pose threat to the entire township of Kimin from Kud River.
At Kakoi, four houses have been washed away and at Gumpto, Birup River is causing extensive damages and threat to the local population, the MLA added.
In the state capital region also, rain is being watched with alert as the area is prone to landslides.
Meanwhile the EAC Mika Nyori has directed the villagers to stay away from the River. The local panchayat and Gaon Burhas have been instructed to form voluntary groups to keep a watch on the flow of the river at nights.
The Police and Civil administration are keeping a constant vigil to deal.
Governor gets support from Ministry of tourism
ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Convinced by the presentation of the Governor Arunachal Pradesh Gen JJ Singh on its viability of the tremendous tourism potential of the State, the Union Minister assured an amount of Rs 5 crore to set up one such heliport destination, as a pilot project.
Championing the cause of developing the state, he called on the Union Minister for Tourism Kumari Selja at New Delhi today.
The Governor also highlighted that in collaboration with Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre Guwahati, a workshop on Modern Bamboo Structures and Housing to encourage contemporary tourism complexes with low construction cost and time will be conducted at Itanagar from August 23 to 26 next.
In order to bring Arunachal in the mainstream of national and international tourism map, the Governor expressed a de novo concept of camping sites and adventure, which could be a major attraction for nature and adventure lovers.

A food festival of Arunachal Pradesh along with its cultural heritage will also be held at Dilli Haat duly supported by the Ministry. This will also give an opportunity for local artisans to showcase their products at Dilli Haat.

Public hearing reaches doorstep of affected people
ITANAGAR, Aug 13: In its Endeavour to ensure mass participation in the Public Hearing on Environment Clearance of 1750 MW Lower Demwe project, the Second phase of hearing was conducted at Paya Machima community Hall under the Chairmanship of Anjaw Deputy Commissioner C.S. Jeinow on August 12 last.
Presiding over the function, the DC expressed his satisfaction that 95% of the people welcomed the project to see light of development in this backward district.
Urging the company to look into many of the grievances, the DC said that comprehensive contingency plans and packages should be worked out for affected people. The Member Secretary APSPCB R K Deori spelt out the aims and objectives of environment clearance before execution of big dams.
Tezu EAC T. Jerang who is coordinating the hearing process on behalf of District Administration, elaborated the survey and investigation by taking all affected villages in his fingertips on the left and right bank of the Lohit river. Apex bank to implement one time settlement scheme
ITANAGAR Aug 13: With a view to speedup recovery of bad loans of the bank, the Management of the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd. has issued orders for implementation of "one time settlement scheme 2009" to all the branches with instructions to receive applications from the defaulting borrowers for settlement of their loan accounts under the OTS scheme, 2009.
The scheme is targeted at recovery of all doubtful and chronic NPA accounts of the
bank for compromise settlement. The main feature of OST scheme is that the NPA accounts
of all sectors irrespective of nature, activity or purpose which have become sub-
The scheme will cover both institutional and individual defaulters. The minimum amount to be recovered is 100% of the outstanding balance in the account inclusive of interest as on the date on which the account was categorized as doubtful NPA.
For PACS and LAMPS, minimum amount to be recovered is 100°-
Penal interest, legal charges and other charges may be waived. The scheme will be non discretionary and non discriminatory. The last date of receipt of application is 31.10.2009.
Arunachal Consumer court’s landmark judgment
ITANAGAR, Aug 13: For normal citizens in the state which is hardly bother to fight back, the judgment given by the Arunachal Pradesh Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission should serve as an example.
In a landmark judgment, Arunachal Pradesh Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has awarded Rs 4, 60,000 to complainant Pasang Dorjee Sona who took the Pawan Hans Helicopter service, Department of Civil Aviation Arunachal Pradesh to task for its irresponsive act.
The complainant is to be paid the amount within a period of two months from now failing which amount will carry interest @ 9% from the date of the order.
The complaint was filed by Sona after the Pawan Hans chopper took off for Gauhati from Naharlagun good half an hour before its schedule leaving him depriving of a connecting flight to Delhi and his joining as a legal advisor to Delhi based company in 2001.
The department in its defense said that due to technical problem it had to leave earlier then its scheduled time. But it did take off despite technical problem!
ITANAGAR, Aug 13 (DPNN) The District Demand Joint Action Committee (DDJAC), Likabali

Taipodia further appealed to the GWS to take appropriate action against the state chief secretary Tabom Bam for reportedly misleading the government on the feasibility report submitted to the government by the DC, Aalo.
DDJAC requested the chief secretary to use his good office for acting in the interest of the genuine needs of the people and as decided by the Galo Bane Keba.
Citing the immense problems faced by the people living in the foothill areas due to the ongoing boundary dispute between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, the DDJAC felt that the government should pay due attention to the long felt demands of the people without any further delay.
“We have no objection to the inclusion of Basar in the new district but the selection of the district headquarters should be at a centrally located place to facilitate immediate intervention by the administration for meting justice to the Arunachalee people in the event of any boundary tension besides enabling the people to avoid long distance travel for carrying out their official works.
The DDJAC alleged that the DC, Aalo, had submitted a feasibility report on the basis of a D.O letter from the chief secretary overriding the sentiments of the people.
It also questioned the contradictory statements given by the government in the media leading to the confusion among the people who have been fighting for a separate district since long.
DDJAC had earlier called a bandh in protest against the feasibility report submitted by the DC, Aalo.
The GWS spokesman Domin Loya termed it unfortunate that the government was playing with the sentiments of the people by creating controversy on the matter. He appealed to the political leaders not to use the opportunity for gaining political mileage and warned the government against playing ‘divide and rule’ policy at the cost of peace and unity among the Galos.
Meanwhile, the GWS president Huzar Lollen has appealed to all Galo members to maintain utmost restraint and refrain from indulging in mudslinging, hurling of unparliamentary words against each other and calling of bandhs but stand united at this hour.

ITBP conducts blood donation camp
ITANAGAR Aug 13: 10 ITBP organized a voluntary Blood Donation Camp at its unit HQ Kimin on August 13 with assistance of Blood Bank Civil Hospital North Lakhimpur on the occasion.

On this occasion voluntary blood donators of 40 Bn ITBP also donated blood. Total of 48 units of blood was donated by 5 Officers, 3 Subordinate Officer and 40 other ranks of both units.

Zubeen cancels a performance in USA to travel to Longding
KHONSA, Aug 13: A few years ago a young man from Assam with a guitar in his hands and a dream in his eyes set out beyond the shores of the mighty Brahmaputra and reached Mumbai in search of greener pastures and better opportunities.
Today, that young man who is known to the world as Zubeen Garg, is a shining star in the musical firmament of not only India but abroad as well. The singing sensation from the Northeast where guns and roses exist side by side has created a niche for himself in tinsel town Mumbai.
Thousands of youth from the turbulent but musically rich Northeast had been inspired by the sweet success of Zubeen and they are following his foot steps. Thanks to the way shown by him, today singers from the region emerge winners or perform creditably well in the national level singing competitions. He is the true musical Ambassador of the Northeast to world outside. He is the pride of the Northeast. For the people of Tirap in general and of Khonsa in particular, August 12 was a historic and memorable day.
Zubeen Garg, the singer and the performer landed up at Khonsa in a rainy morning with dark clouds hovering over the township sky and the incessant rain refusing to budge. The weather pattern throughout the day remained the same, rain and more rain.
But as the evening came and as soon as the musical beats began to emanate from the huge stage at the Nehru Stadium, even the rain Gods relented and the weather mercifully improved, thereby allowing the thousands of music lovers relish the moment of their lives.

Earlier, they had only seen him in magazines or TV. Zubeen did not disappoint his fans. He lived up to the expectation of the eager crowd. In fact, he gave his best that night.
He rendered some of his old hits, often jumping, dancing and clapping, in his inimitable style, compelling the huge audiences, especially the young to sway, dance and sing with him. It was an appreciative crowd which was receptive and having great sense of music. The huge crowd that gathered on that day at the Nehru stadium was unprecedented. All the roads in Khonsa virtually led to the stadium.

He even offered his services to perform free of cost with this entire troupe on such occasions to motivate people towards this noble cause.
However what surprised everyone and made a place for him in every heart of Tirap was his sudden decision to stay back in the District for an additional day as he was impressed by the flaura of the District and wanted to carry some rare fern species saplings back home to Guwahati and Bombay for planting in his personal garden.
This was in spite of the fact that he was scheduled to travel to Trinidad and Tobago (through New York) for a performance on the 15th of August.

Mathematics is a subject that is essential for any branch of study, be it science, commerce or even humanities. It is keeping this importance of Mathematics in mind, and the poor situation of teaching of Mathematics in the state that Don Bosco Youth Centre took up the task of organising this workshop.
Thirty Mathematics teachers from over fifteen private schools from all over the state of Arunachal Pradesh took part in the workshop. They deliberated on why students of Arunachal Pradesh find Mathematics difficult and suggested ways and means to overcome the difficulties the students face.

Another problem that came to the fore was the difficulty of finding good teachers to teach mathematics. This is the result of a vicious circle – students do not take up the study of Mathematics because they find Mathematics difficult, and so there are no teachers to teach Mathematics. It is necessary to break out of this vicious circle.
The participants suggested that Rajiv Gandhi University – the University of Arunachal Pradesh, has a very pivotal role to play to bring the state out of this situation. It is essential that it conducts awareness programmes and encourage students to take up the study of Mathematics.
It also should initiate a Master’s degree programme in Mathematics, so that Arunachal can have more teachers in Mathematics and hopefully, students from Arunachal Pradesh may take up research in Mathematics.
The resource person, Dr. Basil Koikara, who has conducted several such seminars all over the North East, suggested ways and means to teach Mathematics well, and make Mathematics interesting. He mesmerised the participants with little mathematical tricks, historical snippets and interesting mathematical objects.
He suggested that teachers should in turn present these to students and make them interested in the study of Mathematics. As an outcome of the workshop, it is ardently hoped that teachers will be able to make their teaching of Mathematics much more interesting and encourage students to find the hidden beauty of Mathematics.
Former CM’s grandson passes away
ITANAGAR: Donli Rba, the grandson of former Chief Minister Late Tomo Riba and Minoti Riba passed away at a Vellore hospital, Tamil Nadu following a brief illness this morning. A student of Bachelor of Business Management, 21 years old Donli was shifted to Vellore earlier this year.
His body is being brought back from Vellore tomorrow and will be laid to rest on Aug 15 at the family’s Naharlagun residence.
Donli is Maddon Riba and Gebom Kena’s son.
ATSU reiterate its demand for dropping of ministers
ITANAGAR: Arunachal Tribal Students’ Union in a letter to governor, Arunachal Pradesh reiterating its earlier demand for dropping of Forest and Environment Minister Newlai Tingkhatra and Health, Family Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister CC Singhpo from the council of Minister for giving an undertaking to work in the interest of Nagas, said that the concerned authority and the state government is not taking any meaningful action on the matter, such inaction on the part of ruling Congress party will definitely set a bad precedent for the state and the nation as a whole.
